It's a wonderful feeling to have an extra $1,000 to spend on a new
watch. The choices are endless, at this price point. You could walk
away with a fabulous Philip Stein or maybe a new Omega...whichever
brand you decide upon you will need to equip yourself with the proper
tools to make a respectable choice. Here are just a few of the
guidelines I would follow if I were out shopping today:? Considering a
timepiece of this caliber, I would definitely buy from a dedicated
watchmaker. There are plenty of quality designers, who also have a
timepiece line, but I would want to buy from a maker who concentrates
on just one thing.? I would most likely look at mechanicals. I would
strongly consider an automatic winding mechanical movement. This is a
substantial investment, ant these timepieces are really made to last a
long time. Not only do they not require manual winding, they never
need batteries. Many designers will feature see-through case backs or
apertures in the dial, which will allow you to see the movement at
work. They're beautiful and functional.? If I were buying a
mechanical timepiece, I would certainly try to get a chronometer.
Certified chronometers are the most reliable and accurate and have
been tested by the COSC.? I would insist on quality detailing. Not
only should the piece be made from fine materials, it should be
finished impeccably. If you maintain the highest standards in your
search, you will end up with the best quality timepiece.
