True StoryMy brother bought a house in an area neighborhood with all
young couples with children. Almost every weekend he would take his
family and go camping. They had a small camping trailer to fit 4
people. His next door neighbor said he would rent a camping trailer to
see if his family would like this. My brother offered him to use his
trailer to try to see if it was fun for them. The following weekend
they decided to try it out. They called campgrounds to make
reservations and they decided on a place in Maine. On a Friday evening
after his work, his wife had everything packed and they were ready to
go. My brother helped him to connect a bumper trailer hitch to his car
and off they went.He drove on the highway for about an hour and then
he pulled into a roadside rest area. It was decided then that his wife
would be better to drive as he worked all day and was tired. He wanted
to get into the trailer for a nap and his wife reminded him that was
against the law. He told her if she was stopped to tell them he was at
home and he was meeting her tomorrow at the camp ground. He took of
his shirt and pants and laid down on the bunk in the camper. So off
she went up the highway. The children were sleeping in the back seat.
She turned on the radio for company and drove quite a ways. All of a
sudden she got very tired and needed to close her eyes for a few
minutes. She pulled over in a safe place on the side of the road. She
turned the car off and laid her head on the front seat. Her husband saw
they were stopped so he got out of the camper to go into the woods for
a few minutes. When he looked into the car he saw his wife was what he
thought was sleeping. His wife couldn't sleep so she started the car
and continued down the highway. In the meantime her husband came out
of the woods to find her gone...What was he to do....He went out to
the highway (without shirt & pants) and started to flag down cars.
Before you knew it he was given a ride by the State Police to the
police station. He explained his wife was up ahead and she didn't know
he had left the car. The state police called up ahead and stopped his
wife and she explained that her husband was at home and he was going
to meet her the next day at the campground. The police arrested her
husband for having no clothes on, lying to a police officer and riding
in back of a camper. His wife bailed him out in the morning he went to
court the next day and had to pay a fine of $300.00. They went home
never wanting to go camping again.
