Dogs are known as man's best friend, to carpet, it may not be the
same. Dogs are one of the many countless enemies of carpet in an
average American home. For dogs, carpet is like the peanut butter to
their jelly. And because of this inclination, they tend to leave
souvenirs too, like dog hair, mud, dust and sand, dog urine and dog
poop that leaves stains and dog scent on the upholstery.Dogs love to
smell things they like and other than that, based on dog instinct,
they mark their territories with pee, they smell it and pee again in
the same spot. Therefore, it is important for pet owners to
immediately clean the urine stain on the carpet to be able to remove
the unwanted scent caused by dog urine.
Here are some tips on how to
clean carpet stains caused by dog urine:1. If the urine is still
fresh, grab a towel; fold it in two, lay it on the stain and step on
it until it has absorbed the urine as much as it can. Remember not to
use paper towels because they are costly, not reusable and
impractical. Repeat this step, until the dog urine can no longer be
extracted from the carpet.
2. If the stain has dried up, mix 3 parts
warm water and 1 part vinegar in a container and pour the mixture on
the stain. The chemical reaction will enable the stain to soften thus
it will make it easier to remove and eliminate the odor of dog urine.
Use towels to dry up the stain softened by vinegar.
3. After, pour
baking soda on the stain and leave it to set. Baking soda is used as
an effective cleaning tool in removing stain and odor because of its
antiseptic properties.
4. Lastly, when the baking soda has settled,
mix hydrogen peroxide and a little of dish soap or detergent in a
container and pour the mixture on the stain and leave it to settle at
about 5 minutes or until it has saturated. Put in a pair of gloves and
blot of the stain to effectively clean the urine and remove the
smell. For dog poop, the same method in removing dog urine will be
applied except that, before doing such, pick up the poop using a
dustpan or paint scraper and continue with the preceding steps as
given above. For dust, mud and dog hair on carpet, simply use vacuum
cleaners with brush heads to effectively remove excess dirt and
particles in the carpet. Pet owners can also mist fabric conditioner
on the carpet to loosen the dirt on the fabric before vacuuming.
