A ceramic umbrella stand makes a fantastic focal point in any foyer
or living room. In fact you could put one of these in any room in your
home. Some people use them as vases to display lovely fresh flowers.
This is something about fresh flowers that makes every home so
inviting. Others will put these beautiful storage jars in their
bathrooms or bedrooms.Regardless of where you use your ceramic
umbrella stand you will have to clean it at some point. This can make
a lot of people nervous particularly if it is an antique. If it has
made in China printed on the bottom you know that you should be able
to replace it fairly easily if the worst happens and it breaks. But
when it is a family heirloom or an expensive investment it is a
different matter. The ceramic may be glazed which is a good thing as
dust finds this hard to settle on. Use a damp cloth and give it a rub
on a regular basis. If you have been using the stand for flowers you
may have some dirt at the bottom. Try rinsing it in warm water to
remove any loose debris. Take a gentle brush such as an old toothbrush
and try to remove any lingering dirt. Be careful not to scrub. This
may remove the dirt but is likely to take the ceramic covering with
it.Make a solution of baking soda, household ammonia or vinegar and
water. Fill the stand with this solution and allow to stand for a
while. After 15 minutes check to see has the dirt been removed, if it
has simply rinse out. If not, let it stand for another while but limit
the time to 45 minutes. After this period, your ceramic umbrella stand
should be as good as new.
