So you think you have a product people will buy off the shelf from
you and pay you big bucks? May be you do. But the hard part really is
twofold---how to attract potential buyers to your site, get them to
buy, and keep them coming back. Here are a few tips.1. Design a less
busy, attractive, eye catching site. Most web-crawlers have extremely
short attention span, counted in fractions of a second, so when they
bump into your site, hold them there. A shopping site that has pop-ups
is ugly, so pay a bit extra to tighten security around your site so
customers can view your site in peace. Some site owners feel they can
earn extra by allowing links. That is correct, but let not the links
become aggressive enough to turn off your potential customers.2. Get a
good web designer. When choosing designers and programmers, make sure
you view what site they have developed so you can compare.3. Focus on
what is important to you in your site. For example, you may want to
attract customers by giving them some freebies---say you are selling
mortgage services. May be a free mortgage calculator without your
customer having to give you his deep dark personal secrets is the way
to go. Once you get the confidence you will increase your customer's
interest.4. Remember the rule---no selling until customer has clicked
two or three time to get deep into your site. Most sites make the
mistake of selling with the first click. Thousands of potential
customers, including me, just pass on to the next site.5. Pay the
search engine extra to "linear up" in search rankings. It pays back.6.
Keep the site active by including updates, articles, freebies etc.7.
Contests are losing popularity. There is actually a site that entices
you with all kinds of merchandise, but then takes you into a maze of
clicks. Needless to say, this site is not doing much real business,
just collecting names.8. Have a marketing consultant on the call---one
who is versed in internet marketing. He or she will guide you from the
first step and share best practices which drive revenue.Good luck.
