The new Mini has been around since 2002. Mini started out as it's
own company but then was later bought out by BMW in the early 2000's.
Mini has always started with the Cooper and the Cooper S. The Cooper
being naturally aspirated and the Cooper S forced induction. The Cooper
is the so called base model of the two, but they both have there pro's
and con's. The Cooper gets better fuel economy than the Cooper S. The
Cooper S has more power than the regular Cooper. What makes you decide
which one that you are going to get is what you are looking for in the
car.I personally have a Mini Cooper S. I absolutely love my Mini. It
is my daily driver. It is a very reliable vehicle with a strong engine
that is faster than most cars and I realistically get 27-29MPG in
town. If I am not flooring it all the time. The First Generation Cooper
starts from 2002 and ends in 2006. This cooper has a 1.6L engine that
produces 115 hp, and is a fun little car to drive. Looking up the MPG
it says that you should get 27 town and 37 high way, but I can almost
grantee that you could get more out of it than that. Realistically you
would be getting 31 in town and 40 on the high way.The First
Generation Cooper S is the same years as the Cooper. The Cooper S has
a 1.6L engine that produces 163 hp. The Cooper s develops more hp with
almost the same engine because this engine is supercharged. The Cooper
S gets 22 in town and 29 high way according to fueleconomy.gov.
Realistically you with get at least 27 in town and as high as 36 high
way. Now that might not sound that good considering that this is a
very small car and a very small engine, but this little engine packs a
punch. The Cooper S races from 0-60 in just 7.2 sec. Now that is a lot
faster than a lot of other cars. It is a complete pleasure to drive
the acceleration is good and the brakes and the steering is
responsive. With all of that it still can get 37MPG!The Second
Generation started in 2007 and is still in use. The Cooper has a 3 hp
gain from the previous generation, and a lot of interior upgrades as
well. The interior just seems to be better material and well
manufactured. It is definitely a step up from the first generation
luxeriour wise, but the first generation feels more responsive. The
Second Generation Cooper S has 172 hp, and a 0-60 of just 6.5 sec.
Which is a lot faster than that of the first gen. It also has the
option to have semi-automatic gear box. With regular automatic as well
as a bump shift and paddle shifters.John Cooper Works started out just
as a tuning kit for the first generation Cooper S models. Boosting
their power from 163 hp to 200hp. Then in 2007 Mini made that John
Cooper Works actually a step up from the S model. With 211 hp. and a
0-60 rating of 6.3 sec.
