Lessons From the Garden for the Internet Marketer - How To Make Your Home Business Bloom!

Living in Oregon, I have developed a special fondness for trees and
beautiful foliage. While I am not known for my green thumb, I keep
trying to grow different plants. Sometimes with surprising success.
Other times, not.Gardening is quiet time for reflection. While pulling
weeds the other day, it occurred to me that the garden offers some
good lessons for internet marketers. I will share:1) Ugly ducklings
don't always turn into swans. Sometimes a lovely sprig morphs into a
beast. Sometimes certain campaigns, even the ones you thought
entertaining, don't flower with audience appeal.2) Withholding
evidence pays. I saw a gorgeous dogwood back East but couldn't find
that plant in Oregon. One day, to my surprise, there was a shoot
offered for sale at a locally. It was plain ugly. No one knew what it
was. But I did. I grabbed it fast, at a bargain price. It is now one
of my best specimens.Giving too much information in a posting can be
overkill. Sometimes revealing just the tip of the iceberg will do. It
may not seem as attractive at first but you can let the excitement
build as the information 'takes root' with your audience leaving them
wanting more.3) Move fast. I lost out on the opportunity to purchase a
drop dead gorgeous specimen because I paused too long. Someone
snatched it up while I hesitated.Internet trends can operate like that
too. Facebook is pairing with Bing to vie with Google. Take advantage
of new opportunities now.4) Trust your helper, but not too much. I am
not tall and need help at pruning time to reach high branches. My
helper is scissor happy and tends to over prune which can hinder
growth.I tried using a ghost writer when I first started, to get a ton
of articles on board fast.I thought that delegating was a good thing;
it allowed me to pursue other techniques at the same time. In my rush
to get the articles published, I didn't supervise the process well.
Huge disappointment.I take a lot of pride in the quality of my
writing. It is me. I don't delegate that task anymore. I'd rather
produce quality.5) Seize the day. Another time, I fell in love with a
tree that sprouted unusual heart shaped leaves. During one hot summer,
it didn't survive. I considered not replacing it for fear that the
same thing would recur. Love prevailed and I tried again. That
replacement tree is now thriving and a favorite. The whole point of
these lessons from the garden for the internet marketer is to
encourage you.Do what's right for your business at the time that's
right for you. Some campaigns will be weeds, those you kill. Some will
be ugly ducklings that surprise you.Sometimes you have to try
something more than once to get it right. If you don't plant, nothing
will grow.Go forth and bloom!
