Do you often have problems when mealtime comes when your child
refuse to eat because he or she does not want what is prepared on the
table? Do not be totally anxious and extremely worried because your
problem is the concern of all parents with young children. You see,
every child actually grows up in that manner. As a matter of fact,
even you most have likely been in that situation. If you don't
believe, well maybe it is now time to ask your child's grandmother.
Yes your mom would definitely tell you that you were also a picky
eater when you are in that age.The most significant aspect that
parents are worrying about when their child is a picky eater is that
they might not be getting enough nutrients that is essential in
keeping up with healthy and normal body growth and development. To end
up these worries, it is recommended that you start off with education
your kids about the relevant facts about eating healthy and balanced
meals in the way that they can easily grasp and understand. It is to
be excepted that kids on this age group are accustomed to familiarity
and regularity so when they see things that are new to them, they end
up not acknowledging it at once for fear that they might not like them
especially foods that do not look delicious at first glance. As a
parent, it is your responsibility to do everything to make sure that
your child would not be totally in difference with what you have to
offer at the dining table during mealtime. It is important that you
get to know what your child really wants so that you can come up with
recipes that they would find interesting enough to eat. To discover
this, it would be ideal if you get them involved in shopping in the
groceries and while strolling along the stalls ask them what foods
they want to have for lunch or dinner. As you go along, teach them in
a very understandable manner about healthy vegetables and fruits and
other foods that can contribute to their growth and
development.Another tip is for you to ask your child to help you out
in the kitchen especially when preparing meals. Request that she be
the one to rinse the vegetables or beat the egg if you are cooking
something that needs eggs. Along the process, you need to make it fun
for them so as to motivate them to help you again until it becomes a
habit. On the dinner table, you have to show your child that you are
doing what you are teaching because children love to imitate from the
actions of their parents and elderly relatives. Thus, if you display
good and healthy eating habits, they are likely to keep that in mind
and action as well.Forcing a child to eat even if they are not hungry
would certainly disrupt the accomplishment of your goal to help them
appreciate healthy foods. It is important that your respect your
child's appetite as long as they are not in any way skipping meals.
When you are introducing a food that is totally new for your child,
you should not emphasize your power that much. At first, they are sure
to resist eating that unfamiliar food no matter how hard you explain
how healthy it is for her. This is when you can practice your patience
because if you take it slowly, kids are more likely to respond to you
instead of pushing them too hard to eat it. Try to expose it to them
several times until the time they give in to your request to try
them.As kids as they are, do not forget to praise them once they are
able to eat healthy foods that are new to them. Each time they finish
a healthy meal, it is a must that you tell your picky eater how good
she was in making that healthy choice. This would stimulate her
confidence and act as a motivation for her to continue eating
healthy.
