When playing against a Protoss opponent, one of the common things to
run into is a rush where he starts planting Photon Cannon's near your
base. Here is a strategy to use when you are playing as Terran. The
first thing to do is to scout early on in the game. A good time to
start is after the first Supply Depot has been built. When scouting,
one sign to look out for is when there's nothing at the opponent's
base. If all that has been built is a Pylon and a Forge, that is a
really good sign that your opponent will come at you with the Photon
Cannon. If the signs all point toward the Photon Cannon Rush, scout for
where the enemy is building. When you have found it, the last thing you
want to do is panic and send units over to a suicide mission. Let your
opponent build his Photon Cannons. These are two strategies to use for
this situation.1. The first strategy is to create a group of Marauders
which are really effective against Photon Cannons. Instead of going
straight for the Pylon, go for the cannon since the Pylon takes 100
more hit points to destroy. Also, keep in mind that your opponent can
easily put up another Pylon to power up the cannons. One thing to watch
out for when using this strategy is your enemy trying to stop you from
being able to create Marauders. For example, they can try to build
Assimilators on your Geyser.2. The second strategy is to micromanage
your workers to collect away from the Photon Cannon's range.Build
Barracks and train a bunch of Marines. Do not rally them to the
Pylon.Let the Protoss opponent keep building closer and closer to your
camp. When your SCV's can no longer avoid being hit, lift your base and
move it away to a mineral field near by. This is a great way of having
your opponent waste his time and resources. And, you also have a mass
of marines ready to attack the enemy's base.A thing to keep in mind
when using this strategy is that you don't want to distract yourself
too much from doing normal routines for expanding your base.
