What Exactly Is Solar PV?

With the recent growing importance of being greener, people have
become a lot more conscious about where they get their energy from.
With so many alternatives to choose from it can be a daunting task
trying to make your house greener. One fantastic way to do that is to
produce green energy using solar power. There are 2 main types of solar
power systems Solar Photovoltaic (PV) for generating electricity, and
solar thermal which is for water heating. Solar PV supplies
electricity to a home. Photovoltaics (PV) panels are an array of cells
containing a solar photovoltaic material which converts solar
radiation into direct current electricity. Due to the huge increase in
demands for renewable energy sources, the manufacture of solar cells
and photovoltaic arrays has advanced dramatically in the past few
years. The increase has been roughly 20% each year since 2002, making
it the world fastest growing energy technology. The cost of solar PV
has decreased steadily in recent years due to the popular demand and
growing technology. A solar PV panel requires only daylight, not
necessarily sunlight. The technology used converts the daylight into
electrical power. As the panels use daylight rather than sunlight it
means that the panels can work even on a cloudy day. They can be
installed easily to the roof of most homes and easily connected to a
buildings electrical supply. This form of solar power does not generate
any green house gases or any kind of pollution, making them much
better for the environment. For each kilowatt-peak of electricity
produced with these panels can save approximately 455 kilograms of
carbon dioxide emissions compared to that made from fossil fuels. The
solar installations can operate for many years with little maintenance
or intervention, so after the initial setup cost, operating costs are
extremely low. Therefore, the money saved on your electricity will
offset the initial setup cost, making a solar PV system an incredibly
valuable investment for the future.Solar panels can be attached to
most kinds of roofs including pitched roofs and flat roofs, or even
fixed vertically onto external wall or on the ground. The panels don't
have to be directly attached to the building, so they can be kept
separate and simply connected by a wire. The panels will work
effectively in most places as long as no part of the panel is being
shaded from the sun.
