You'd better hope not! What does that mean? Well let's really take a
look at that. Let me begin by articulating my experience with desire
and happiness. There have always been two sure-fire ways for me to
experience unhappiness.
Not getting what I want
Getting what I want!Getting what I want is guaranteed to bring me a
healthy dose of unhappy. At first, I experience moments of glee. Then
I realize that it was not enough...not big enough, shiny enough,
pretty enough... it was just not enough! Now I want that! And I will
not be happy until I get it. The cycle continues. Because there is
never enough. I am programmed to seek more; more money, pleasure,
possessions. I am addicted to want. I have accepted a great many
programmers in my life--spiritual and religious guides, school
teachers, parents, bosses--a virtual host of mentors. They have all
told me to somehow follow these rules:
Decide what you want (not
difficult for me)
Write it down (easy)
Repeatedly visualize it as if you already have it (huh?)
Take steps to achieve your goal (we'll see). Why Bother? There is never
enough! What do I want happiness for anyway? There is never enough. It
always goes away. Then I have to start over and find more. The cycle
continues. To say, "I want..." is to say that "I lack..." The universe
hears that and responds to my lack. I want. I want. I want. As long as
I want, I will always want. What works for me is the power of
Intention. We are all creators. We attract whatever we say that we
have. Every day I remember to say some phrases out loud such as, "I am
developing a career that uses my creative talents and abilities, is of
maximum use to my brothers and sisters and provides me with ample
financial rewards." "I experience abundance all the time." "I am
everything!" An effective, creative intention is:
First person
Present tense
Positive! My mind says (is saying right now), "That's nonsense;" to my
ego-driven mind, it is. There is a knowing deep within me that is
aware of the power of intention. Google it. Go there. Stay there.
Experience the joy of having, the joy of life! Will I ever get what I
want? You'd better hope not!
