You knew it was coming but you just kept telling yourself that you
wouldn't be laid off from a job that you have been working at for
years. They wouldn't let you go, you're just too valuable and know too
much about their business. But it happened anyway. This story is all
too common and what you do at this point can determine if this is a
positive life change or one that will ruin you.Stage one after being
laid off from your job is feeling anger. You're ticked off and for
good reason. You gave this company a lot of years and worked many
hours to help them succeed. Maybe you worked your way up and became a
middle manager never thinking you would get laid off from a job. When
it came time to cut the budget, they needed to get rid of some higher
salaries so you are the one to get laid off and you worked so hard to
get there. It's just not fair! After the anger calms a bit, you could
start feeling disbelief. Thoughts like "did this really happen" could
enter your mind and "I can't believe they did this after all these
years." From here, it could lead to doubts about you and how you did
your job. You may start wondering if it was something you did and
could you have done things differently. Being laid off is no fun!Next
you may feel sadness and depression. I say it's okay and you may need
to go through some or all of these phases in order to start over
again. What you do from this point forward is up to you and you alone.
This is what's called a turning point. Do you make lemonade out of
these lemons or do you become a victim? You decide. Getting laid off
from a job may not be such a bad thing after all.If you choose to look
at this life experience as an opportunity, then I have some good news
for you. How does taking charge of your own destiny sound? You can, by
becoming your own boss and starting your own business. Now don't get
scared. Granted you won't have the security blanket of having someone
else take care of you and give you a weekly paycheck. What you will
have is control over what you do every day and how you do it. You will
be able to decide where you work, when you work and how much money
you're going to make.Starting your own business requires
determination, positive thinking and a little guidance. If you have a
hobby or flair for anything, you can turn it into a profitable online
business. Even if you are not savvy about computers or the Internet,
there are ways to earn good money by telling people about your
passion. It could be sports like football, baseball, fitness or
running. Maybe you love cooking, knitting, teaching or electronics.
Take this interest to a new level and build a company. To get started,
pick one thing you are crazy about and decide on a product that you
would buy related to that thing. For example, I love cooking so I
might pick a cookbook that I love or a kitchen gadget that I use all
the time. Next, look for a company that sells that item and also
offers what's called an affiliate program. You can do this by entering
"kitchen gadgets + affiliate program" into a search engine like Google
or Yahoo. Once you find the product and the program you are on your
way. Don't let being laid off stop you from making your dreams come
true.Next, you will need to promote this wonderful item and get the
word out about it, which is the Marketing part of Internet marketing.
There are a variety of ways to do this and these are too numerous to
go into here but take my word for it, it's easy to learn and anyone
can do it. There are some excellent training programs, videos and
tutorials to help you with this.Being laid off from a job is no fun
but running your own business and making a living on your own terms
is. You can make the most of this turning point in your life and never
have to rely on anyone else again for your paycheck. It does take
effort, determination and some knowledge but what you create is your
own and no one can change that. If you keep at it, you can make the
kind of money most people only dream of.
