Childhood Fishing

Children have a habit of dreaming and wishing. As a child, I used to
dream to become a doctor. Along that dream came my stethoscope toys
and tiny plastic thermometers. Each time I played with those toys, I
felt that I truly did what a doctor would do. Dreams often motivate
children to pursue their future. More of what our great leaders of
today started with a small dream when they were kids. One of the many
things that fathers would be able to leave with their children
especially sons are unique experiences that they sacrificed with their
children. Take fishing for example. A childhood experience of fishing
will be one that is cherished and remembered through out the child's
lifetime and may even be relayed to next generation as a bedtime
story. As I watched the finale of the movie "National Treasure," it hit
me right there, how Benjamin Gates (Nicolas Cage) was strongly
influenced by his ancestors. That drove him to pursuer his dream. His
grandfather told him stories about how his great grandfathers kept the
secret of a hidden treasure that would be know as the "treasure of all
treasures."Nowadays, more and more youngsters do crazy things. One of
the most common roots of all these misdemeanors is the lack of
attention and nurturing that parents give to their children. More and
more children are being effectively "taught" by the television or the
computer, more than being taught by loving parents. Most lessons they
learned from the outside world, if not processed correctly, proved to
be more detrimental than helpful. If for example, a father would bring
his son to a lake nearby or a few hours out of town, what joy would
that be for a 9 year old boy. I can only imagine the stories that he
would tell his classmates and friends of how the trout and salmon
wiggled its tails as he took it by his hands. He probably would tell
them about the fun walk that he had with his dad on the way to the
lake. Some had to drive to get to the nearest lake so he might tell
them of the many scenic views that they saw along the way. He wouldn't
probably fail to appreciate the sandwich by the gasoline station along
the way. These are very simple childhood encounters that children may
actually love more than the computer games he plays everyday. However,
albeit simple, yet, simple lake fishing with your son may be the very
thing that will make him a better person soon, as he grows in life.
