Hurricane Tomas: Haiti Begins to Rebuild After Destruction of Hurricane Force Winds and Driven Rain

As mudslides become the next natural challenge to threaten the
beleaguered nation of Haiti, loved ones bury six that were killed by
Hurricane Tomas' winds. It is leaving many homes and much property
destroyed in the aftermath as it moves through the Caribbean, but the
Haitian people are no strangers to hurricanes. They are managing to
get along after all that has confronted them, lately. hurricane
watchers expect the winds of Hurricane Tomas to decline as it makes
its way into the Atlantic to the relief of those on the islands in the
vicinity, but area island dwellers remain aware.Haiti was still
recuperating from the effects of the recent earthquake when Hurricane
Tomas decided to pay them a visit. Tomas hurricane driven rains caused
temporary flooding making travel very difficult and stranding some
vehicles. Hundreds of thousands were killed or left homeless by the
earthquake, and many of them were still living in tents. To make
things worse, the bare mountainsides are threatening mudslides as the
heavy rains rush downhill. Neighboring Islands have received their
share of the rain, as well. The hurricane is predicted to get weaker
and to be reclassified to a tropical storm. The latest reports have it
moving at seven miles per hour to the northeast carrying cyclone winds
of seventy-five miles per hour. If the hurricane remains on its
present course, it will encounter unfavorable conditions and dissipate
into the cooler waters of the Atlantic, but it still poses a
threat.Hurricanes have been known to drastically change course or even
reverse course and impact an area more than once. People in the area
should not get complacent and completely forget about the storm until
it is well away from the islands. There is still a possibility of more
storms developing that could affect the area, although, none is
expected in the near future. Hurricane Tomas seems to be on its way
out, and the 2010 hurricane season is coming to an end. Haiti can
finally begin the rebuilding process. The nation of Haiti had been
experiencing a bad run of luck even before Hurricane Tomas and rains
compounded the problems. The people there are resilient and have
become accustomed to recovery after violent storms and other
challenges. Thankfully, it looks as if they will recover from those
that arose this year the same as they always have. The best news for
Haiti is that its most recent adversary will soon dissipate into the
cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
