The very utterance of the name of the capital city of India Delhi
creates a world of wonder and ecstasy at the moment. The grand
happening of the Commonwealth Games 2010 with great success is still a
talk of the town not only in India but also across the world. The two
weeks of intense sporting action led to the witnessing of records
being broken and emergence of new stars. CWG 2010 brought 6,700
athletes, officials, and spectators from 71 nations; man-made splendor
is so beautifully exhibited in the opening and closing ceremonies with
sophistication and ultra modern facilities in the venues and CWG Games
Village that the whole world has appreciated India. A blend of laser
shows, traditional martial arts, cultural performances, military bands
created a milieu in the opening and closing ceremonies thrilled the
spectators.India ranked second in the CWG 2010 medals tally after
Australia. With 38 gold, 27 silver, and 36 bronze, totaling 101
medals, India has no doubt emerged as a sports power too.During the
Games period, the hotels in Delhi did not witness cent percent
occupancy; the five star Delhi hotels accommodated more of Games
tourists rather than leisure or business tourists. With most people
aware about traffic congestion with city roads in part dedicated to
the CWG 2010 vehicle traffic, the five star hotels in Delhi did
witness a drop in the occupancy levels. Compared to October of the
preceding year, these Delhi hotels including budget hotels in Delhi
have seen low revenue flowing in. Corporate clients who have done
advanced booking in the five star hotels in Delhi, made cancellations
citing traffic congestion and non-happening of serious business.Of
course CWG has elevated the status of Delhi in particular and India in
general in the world map. And with athletes, delegates, and spectators
from 71 nations participating and also taking sight seeing trips,
future tourism prospects are bright. It is for a period of two weeks
that Delhi hotels did not make business up to expectations but the
coming days will certainly favor the hospitality sector in the capital
city!
