With various kinds of therapies being used by hospice to make the
lives of terminally ill people more comfortable, reiki is not far
behind. Registered professional nurses have found reiki therapy useful
in giving the healing touch to their patients. The general morale of
the patient improves and they are able to cope much better with their
problems. One of the nurses is a community educator in hospice and
shares this information with the patient's family and the
physicians.Only those who have been actively involved with work at
hospice can envisage the complexity of the situation with deep
emotions and stress running side by side. The family and the patient
are both going through this traumatic period and the therapy with
reiki is truly useful here.A community educator is usually the first
person who meets and interacts with the family and the patient after
discussions with the physician. It is the physician who recommends
hospice care for the patient after all forms of treatment have been
exhausted and it is confirmed that nothing more can be done. The
family is usually upset when they hear this verdict but they have to
make a decision to keep the patient comfortable for their remaining
days.Various kinds of therapies are adopted to heal the person's mind
of anxiety and fear and get them out of depression which most end
stage patients go into. Pet therapy where pets are brought in and the
patient is allowed to spend time with them and take their mind off
their own illness; aroma therapy where essential oils are used for
massages; counseling and reiki are another form of therapeutic
help.Reiki therapy boosts the confidence of people and gives them a
new energy which can be utilized to deal with any kind of stress. In
fact stress is reduced because of this and the person can overcome
this fears and anxiety.
