What is faith? This is a fundamental question that we as Christians
need to ask ourselves. In this article, I wish to address the issue in
a different perspective. At the end of the day, we should be able to
know whether we have faith or not.Faith, from my understanding refers
to the capacity to believe what we cannot see or discern from our own
mortal abilities. We however need to be careful here. We should not
confuse ignorance with faith. Lack of awareness cannot be equated to
faith. You cannot ignore information about a particular thing on the
premise that you have faith on its (in) existence!During the times of
Jesus ministry, people demonstrated faith in various ways. Do you
remember the story of the woman who touched the cloak of Jesus? She
had bled for more than 12 years. That is a very long time. When she
saw Jesus in a crowded place, she knew she could not easily get access
to Him; she chose a path of faith. If she touched his cloak, she
believed it had power to heal; that is exactly what happened. Jesus
felt power flow within Him. What a magnificent display of faith! The
other story is that of men who brought a sick man to Jesus in packed
room. Realizing they could not pass the man safely to Him, they put
him on a stretcher and lowered him from the roof top; indeed, faith
without action is dead. Jesus was surprised by the faith in this men;
the man was healed by Jesus. There was also the other of the Centurion
servant. Centurion saw no need of Jesus going to his house to heal his
servant: "just say one word and my servant will be healed...."Examples
of faith actions in the Bible are endless. The underlying question is
how we perceive faith today. Do we meet the standards of faith as
demonstrated by our fore fathers? I think we slacken a bit when tested
on matters of faith; some modern Christians are not steadfast on
faith. They rely on technology more than God, yet faith remains as
relevant today as it was over 2000 years ago. The question is whether
you are still strong in faith or you have a shell for a faith. I pray
that it remains strong and strengthen your spirit to serve the lord.
Your faith is your shield and armor.
