The clock at Britannia Stadium will strike Premier League match
time, when Stoke host Fulham on Tuesday, December 28, in match week
20.Stoke enjoyed a purple patch ith five unbeaten games on the trot
that was broken when they meyt Blackpool in their last home game, in
match week 17. Stoke's inconsistency came to the fore when they lost
1-0 to the pre-season relegation favourites. The Seasiders were much
more dominant than the score-line would suggest, as they controlled
midfield and kept the Potters on the run. Stoke's effeteness on the
field ensured that they were not able to penetrate Blackpool's defence
which has not been the best on display this season.Etherington and
Fuller were among the bright spots for Tony Pulis's side, alongwith
Begovic in the goal. But the Potters should rue their lost scoring
opportunities on the day; also, they came to life a little too late in
the game, and that allowed Tangerines to carry away three
points.Fulhams last away game was a meeting with Arsenal in match week
16, that ended 2-1 in Gunners' favour. Nasri was absolutely brilliant
on the day, and he was the difference between the sides. Briggs, in
left back position for the Cottagers, could not contain the diminutive
forward and Hughes thought it best to take him off thrity minutes into
the game.Dempsey and Kamara carried Fulham's attack to Arsenal and
their efforts paid off when they managed to level the score on 30
minutes. Earlier, Nasri had given Gunners the lead in the 15th minute.
Kamara hoodwinked Gunners' porous back-line shortly befoire the break
but failed to score, with Fabianski up to the task of preventing the
ball from going into the Arsenal net. With 11 minutes to go to the end
of the game, another scoring chance came to nought, when Etuhu's close
range shot went wide.Head to head, in four league games between Stoke
and Fulham, the Potters (currently in 13th place in the table) have
established a 2-1 advantage over the 17th placed Cottagers, with one
game drawn. The last encounter between the sides hosted by Fulham in
May 2010, ended 1-0 in Potters' favour.Stoke have enjoyed an average
home record this season, winning four of nine games hosted while
drawing two and losing the remaining three. Fulham have had an
unimpressive away record with three of eight games lost, while drawing
the rest.Stoke's starting eleven against Blackpool comprised Begovic,
Wilkinson, Shawcross, Huth, Collins,Pennant, Whitehead, Delap,
Etherington, Jones and Fuller. Walters, Whelan and Sanli were the
substitutes used.Fulham's starting eleven against Sunderland comprised
Schwarzer, Pantsil, Hughes, Hangeland, Salcido, Davies, Murphy, Etuhu,
Dempsey, Gera and Kamara. Baird and the two Johnsons, Eddie and Andy,
were substitutes.
