Premier League match time dawns at Upton Park, when West Ham host
Everton on Tuesday, December 28.West Ham's last home game was against
Man City, a match that they lost 3-1. The Hammers have been at the
foot of the points table since the beginning oif the season, and their
performance in home games have not compensated for their poor record
on the road.On the day, City outplayed the Hammers in every department
with midfield control wrested from Spector and Parker who were
off-colour for the Upton Park squad.Manager Avram's Grant is almost at
the end of his tether, and with half the season done and dusted, will
need to pull something out of his hat to turn things around. In their
last away game, in match week 18, Everton beat Man City 3-1 to end a
seven-game winless streak. The Toffees were reduced to 10-men with
Victor Anichebe earning a second caution and being sent off.Moyes'
charges defended resolutely after taking a 2-0 lead on 20 minutes as
Man City bombed forward in search of goals. City got a consolation
goal, and curiously it was from an own goal resuting from an error by
Jagielka who otherwise was the stand out performer for the
Toffees.Baines in defence and the talismanic Cahill up front stood by
their team, when it mattered. Everton used all their three keepers and
each one of Hibbert, Howard and Neville rose to the occasion with
brilliant saves, on the day.West Ham at the bottom of the points table
have won just two games (their only wins this season) in nine games
hosted at Upton Park, while drawing three and losing four. Everton,
placed 14th, have not enjoyed a great travelling record, with just two
wins to show for nine games in the road, while drawing five and losing
two.Head to head in the last 20 league games between the sides, West
ham have won 11 to Everton's 4, with the last game in April 2010,
hosted by the Toffees, ending in a 2-2 draw. While West Ham's poor
record this season points to a possibly one=sided game Everton haven't
been as impressive against the weaker teams as they have against the
big names such as Man United and Man City. Grant's charges have a
great pat record against Moyes's men and that could spur the Hammers
to spring a surprise.West Ham had the following men in their starting
eleven against Blackburn in match week 18: Boffin, Ben-Haim, Tomkins,
Upson, Gabbidon, Barrera, Parker, Dyer, Spector, Piquionne and Boa
Morte. Stanislas, McCarthy and Cole were used as substitutes.Everton
had the following men in their starting eleven against Manchester
City: Howard, Neville, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Rodwell,
Fellaini, Osman, Cahill and Anichebe. Bilyaletdinov, Saha and Hibbert
featured as substitutes.
