Even as we are in our working environment, thieves may be around
looking for the next opportunity for them to make their move. Crime is
a situation that may occur wherever you are, usually in the places you
least expect it because you tend have your guard down.By following
these five steps you will increase your workplace security:Thieves
look for items of value such as laptop computers, mobile phones and
other electronic equipment that can be sold easily. Staff belongings
such as wallets may also be stolen if not taken care of. If it is
possible lock valuable items up.
Make sure that the workplace environments security is up to date.
Thieves will constantly be testing and looking for new possibilities
that open up for them. Keeping the security up to date will be a
deterrent.
Check the security procedures for all the buildings entry and exit
points. Thieves will check for weak spots and faults. Thieves will try
gain access undetected through faulty fire doors, elevators and
unattended reception areas.
Staff should approach unknown visitors. Thieves will come into the
work place close behind normal staff members and pretend to blend in.
If strangers are seen, encourage the staff to approach them.
Install security system warning signs throughout the workplace
especially at the entrance. These signs will make the thieves aware
that the building is protected, for example by 24hr security
surveillance.
Apart from these, make sure that every staff member is aware that
crime may occur anywhere and they should take care of their personal
belongings.
