Have you always dreamed of being a part of the healthcare industry
but could not make it through? If you happen to be one of those who
cannot imagine being a part of the health care sector without becoming
a licensed physician, it is time you thought again. There are numerous
professions on technical and administrative sectors associated, and
are equally well respected in the field of medicine. If you happen to
be interested in the technical aspects of medical science, there might
be a way to launch your career in just about two years.Who is an X-ray
Technician? An X-ray technician is a health care worker who is trained
to handle and manipulate x-ray equipments. The technician takes
pictures of the body, required in order to make correct diagnosis.
Those who are a little more trained/ qualified often also carry out
other technical tasks in the radiology department. The work setting is
usually clinics and hospitals. How to get trained?Students interested
in becoming x-ray technicians usually attend trade schools for 24
months, prior to joining the workforce.Training sessions initially
begin with x-ray equipments, and taking pictures and position of
patients properly to get the best possible pictures of the concerned
areas. Some students further go on to take courses in radiology, like
the ones having to do with the use of MRIs, CT scans, sonograms,
tomography scans.Schools that offer training British Columbia
Institute of Technology- offers Associate Certificate in Medical
Radiography. Classroom and online courses are combined to keep classes
flexible. Hands-on training is also available.
 The Michener
Institute of Applied health Sciences- offers a 3-year degree and
advanced diploma program in Radiological Technology. General courses
include radiology, fluoroscopic imaging and computed tomography.

College of the North Atlantic- offers a technical course is Medical
Radiography. The program has both theoretical as well as practical
aspects.
Northern Alberta Institute of Technology- Students are
trained in both medical laboratories and X-ray disciplines. Students
are mainly trained to serve in rural community health clinics.

Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology- offers a
program in Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technology. The program helps
students develop skills in radiological and electrocardiography
technologies and in general medical lab procedures.Full time study
programs in this field usually cost $10000 a year, on an average. This
amount, however, only includes tuition and certain fees. Cost of
books, supplies are extra.Things to be cautious aboutThough a very
lucrative field, X-ray technician training does involve certain risks
which should be avoided as much as possible. It is best to avoid
online degree/diploma programs, or ones which make promises that are
too good to be true. These are often scams that burn a hole in you
pocket, and leave you with a handful of dust.
 It is a known fact
that regular contact with X-rays can be damaging for the body.
Prevention should be taken, and extreme exposure should be avoided, at
all costs.
