Is it really necessary to take a multi-vitamin as a supplement?
Aren't there vitamins in the food we eat? These are good questions
that many of us have asked ourselves. For a long time, I didn't see
the need to take a multi-vitamin. Then I realized that I'm not doing
the following things:1. Making good food choices every day.
2. Mixing
and matching the food that I eat to make sure I get the right vitamins
every day.
3. Eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables
ANY day.A multi-vitamin isn't meant to replace the vitamins that
should come from food sources. However, I appreciate that fact that
they exist because of the above stated reasons. I eat reasonably well
when I compare my choices to the fried, fatty, or sugary foods that I
see others grubbing on. But, it's just not happening every day for me.
And, realistically, it never will. Life is just too busy, for me, to
count vitamin intake. When I'm mad, I want a piece of cake and I'm
going to eat it, for dinner instead of a nutritious meal. When I'm sad,
I want only the baked macaroni and cheese, none of the vegetables and
soda instead of water. When I'm lazy, I want peanut butter and jelly or
just a bowl of cereal. Some days, I'm going to ignore myself and eat
properly. Other times, I'm quite simply just going to do what I want
and eat what I want. For this reason, I am grateful for the
multi-vitamins that help me stay balanced. You personally might eat
properly every day, know what fruits and vegetables have what vitamins
and be very strict with yourself. As for me, I am going to stick with
my multi-vitamin!
