Eating Low Carb When Dining Out

It is still possible to dine out while on a low carb diet, as long
as you're selective about food choices and toppings. One way of
keeping carb intake down when dining out is to look up the nutritional
information for each restaurant online. In addition, many food
establishments have nutritional information pamphlets available
on-site as well. Keeping in mind the carb values for the various food
toppings, such as salad dressing and ketchup will allow you to order
food without high carbohydrate extras.Salads are a mainstay since they
are often low carb friendly. Make sure to choose the salad toppings
carefully. When ordering chicken as a salad topper or chicken by
itself, favor grilled chicken over crispy chicken. Crispy food
products are made out of bread which is loaded with carbohydrates.
Salad dressing should be used sparingly as many of the dressings are
high in carbs. Even just a half packet of dressing can be loaded with
sugar. Additions to the salad such as croutons and strips of tortillas
should always be skipped because they are full of carbohydrates. When
ordering sandwiches, try to replace the bread or bun with wheat or
grain bread, or even a lettuce wrap. Sometimes the lettuce wrap is
thick enough to use as a substitute bun, or you can eat it with a
knife and fork. The dangers of high carb intake when eating sandwiches
don't end with the bread. The meat is often breaded and fried, which
is a red flag when reducing carb intake. Always try for grilled
instead of fried sandwich toppings. The final thing to keep in mind
when dining out is the beverage choice. Water is always a safe bet.
Diet sodas, unsweetened tea, and coffee are all safe as well. With
regards to alcohol, moderation is key. Keep the alcohol limited to one
drink, because an excessive amount of alcohol can disrupt the body's
metabolism on a low carb diet.Once you do a little initial research
and get into the habit of low carb eating, it becomes easier to make
healthy choices without having to look up the nutritional information
every time you dine out.
