Being a small business owner can test your motivation. It can be
difficult to maintain a sense of positive optimism when you are
working long hours and wearing too many hats. Here are some useful
tips to help you keep you motivated, interested and determined. Each
Friday, make an effort to finish as many jobs as possible. You will
feel better knowing that you do not have unfinished business hanging
over your head. Walking into work that will need to be finished first
thing Monday morning can be depressing. Having cleared the decks
ensures you don't start the new week on the back-foot.It also pays to
make sure your desk is neat and tidy and all paperwork is sorted and
filed. Set your goals for the following week, and if time allows, any
preparation work, such as sourcing required documents or sending off
emails requesting meetings, needed to complete the tasks set for the
upcoming week. There is no better feeling than walking in to a clean
desk and being ahead of the curve.Re-visit your achievements during
the previous week. Allow yourself a mental pat-on the back for your
efforts and allow a mental moment to celebrate. You can now leave work
happy in the knowledge that you have had a great week and are positive
and prepared for the next week.Try to have a relaxing Sunday evening
to prepare yourself for the week ahead. Try an early Monday morning
start. Where possible, get some early morning excercise and a
nutritious breakfast to give you a healthy body to support healthy
thinking throughout the working day.Give yourself a quick reminder of
your successes in the previous week. This provides you with positive
reinforcement of your efforts and provides a positive and solid
foundation from which to launch your efforts for the new working
week. The early morning start will give you some quiet time to re-visit
your goals and develop a plan for the week. Make sure you pencil time
in your diary to complete the most important tasks first. This will
stop your week from being hi-jacked by urgent, though unimportant
matters.Another suggestion is to take time out to learn. This is
valuable for taking your business forward. Personally, I make it a
point to read at least a chapter of a book, relating to a topic I am
keen to learn, every day. This learning pays for itself in terms of
personal growth and professional development. Another option is to
listen to motivational media. These are a both fantastic ways to keep
you engaged and motivated.Schedule some time mid-week that is
enjoyable. This acts as a bit of a pressure valve and can assist in
keeping you motivated and on track.Encourage others around you by
keeping a cheery and enthusiastic outlook, make it contagious.
Everyone around you will be affected by your positive outlook. These
tips will help you face the new working week feeling refreshed,
positive and ready to take on the world!
